1. A $113.6 Billion Market: Why Consumers Are “Buying Back Their Sleep”
The global sleep economy is projected to surpass $113.6 billion by 2030, growing at a 5.91% CAGR. North America remains the largest market.
WHO data shows that 27% of the global population struggles with sleep issues. The rate rises above 38% in China and 70% in the United States. Nearly half of Gen Z reports difficulty falling asleep.
Rising anxiety and poor sleep quality are fueling a new wave of consumer demand. The market is shifting from basic sleep aids to full-scenario sleep solutions. These include ambient sleep products, wellness supplements, sleep-tech devices, and emerging niche innovations.
The sleep economy represents a collective response. People are purchasing products and tools to regain calm, restore control, and rebuild emotional stability in a high-pressure world.
2. U.S. Tightens Patent Review Transparency, Triggering Trade Concerns
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued a new memo that changes transparency rules for patent invalidation petitions. The update increases scrutiny of petitions filed by companies with international backgrounds.
Some Chinese firms have already received notices requiring them to justify their patent challenges.
China’s Ministry of Commerce criticized the move, stating that it violates U.S. international obligations on intellectual property and imposes discriminatory restrictions.
Officials said China will monitor developments closely and take necessary actions to safeguard the legitimate rights of its companies.
3. EU Plans Major Overhaul of Consumer Protection Rules
European regulators are preparing a significant update to consumer protection laws in response to the rapid rise of SHEIN, Temu, and other online marketplaces.
The European Commission confirmed that a draft law will be introduced next year. The proposal targets digital practices that manipulate consumer behavior, causing users to spend more time and money than intended.
BEUC, Europe’s leading consumer rights organization, said the reform will empower consumers to make better-informed decisions, both online and offline.
4. Target Partners with OpenAI to Launch ChatGPT Shopping Experience
Target is teaming up with OpenAI to bring a new AI-driven retail experience to consumers.
Through the Target app inside ChatGPT, shoppers can receive personalized recommendations, add multiple products to their cart, and check out through Drive Up, in-store pickup, or delivery.
Target is now part of OpenAI’s ecosystem of more than 1 million enterprise customers. Under the agreement, Target will continue using OpenAI’s API and ChatGPT Enterprise to enhance employee productivity and improve customer experience across its retail operations.
5. Google Releases Gemini 3 with Stronger Reasoning and More Stable Outputs
Google introduced its Gemini 3 AI model, delivering major improvements in reasoning accuracy and response stability. The upgrade is now available across the Gemini app, the API, and Google Cloud.
The new model enhances complex instruction handling and long-form content processing. Search has also been upgraded with an interactive interface to improve information clarity.
Developers can customize reasoning levels through the updated API and benefit from Google’s expanded safety collaboration with external experts.
The release reinforces Google’s strategy of integrating AI across products and focusing on practical software-based improvements rather than hardware upgrades.
